Secret Diary of a Call Girl

This essay will be explaining how representation of disability is created through the use of camera, editing sound and mise en scene in this clip from Secret Diary of a Call Girl.

Camera is a very important technique in representing messages and key points of the film, for example when the camera tilts down at the start of the film to introduce black, this shows that his character is disabled. Also the adjustment which cg has to make when addressing someone in wheel chair as opposed to someone standing.

Mise en scene is also a very important technique; this helps us to understand each character individually, who the protagonist is and the purpose of the film. The opening shot is wide long shot and reveals wheelchair of central character , the wheelchair is icon symbol of disability. The shot where is half undressed shows he lack of ability to do simple task such as taking clothes off; this tells us he must be treated as a child. The apartment doesn’t have ramps it has stairs which is not suitable for wheelchair users, this shows us she doesn’t get clients who use wheelchairs regularly. His fathers distracted behavior in the van reveals his discomfort with the situation.

Sound helps the audience to visualize and understand the characters and their situations much clearer. For example CG voice reveals she's nervous and feels awkward with him. She keeps apologies when she has to move blake, this shows she’s treating him like a child. Blake says that ‘ He isn’t used to being touched’ and breaths heavily’ this all suggest he has low self esteem, and that his disability alienates him from common experiences like being touched intimately. The non-diegetic music begins towards end of scene when CG begins to get intimate, starts with sound bridge from car scene. The dialogue reveals father’s concern about what his some can do for example when CG and Black both say email, this indicates that Black is not completely alienated from the world. Blake has arranged this via email, this shows that he wants it and his capable of having more freedom.

Edit helps the audience think outside the box, makes us jump to conclusions and see things different from what it really is. The shot transition from the farther lifting blake to lay him on the bed, reveals his lack of independent and his dependence on others. Also the jump cuts in van with farther shows us the anxiety of father who has to let someone else helps his son. This shows also not only black lacking independency but also the father, he also relies on blake for comfort. Cuts between pov of flat and shots of the father reveals his thoughts and are confirmed by the action in the van. Also the time jump through jumps cuts also shows his been waiting for some time.

Primeval Essay

From the first few minutes, I could straight away see that gender was shown in numerous ways in this Scene. The characters personalities was shown by their body gesture, custome , their tone of voice and the role they played in the film. The form of the narrative used was in a simple structure, like any other story or narrative in a film or story.

Genre was quite clear and obvious, the loaction which was in jungle and also the characters actions suggessted it was action film. The camero shots that was used made the audience realise, who is the perspective leader or protagonist in the first clip through verbal and non-verbal language.

Gender representation as quite muniplating and they changed the way gender is shown by the percieved by the audience first they changed the steriotypical view about women and men roles, for example the women has to be caring and cleans, nutures the house for her husband. However in this film the women with short blond hair is shown to be brave, strong and muscling, this is shown by her posture, prop and her attitude.

The hero seemed more calm and spontaneous, however at the beginning of the film the hero didnt not seem like he was the hero but more like the helper rather then the perspective leader. Although when he grabbed the tiger attention, so that he can save the girl that was very heroic of him. Also when his team work came, his started giving orders, the straight helped us to realise who was the hero and his helpers.

In the second act their was this women with dark brown hair medium long, she was shown as a typical steriotypical rich women. She wore attractive clothing, red lipstick and high hills, her social class was quite clear. She had a strong attitude shown, and very muniplating however at the end you saw she wasn't as strong as you though she was but weak

9 Frame Analysis of 'Son of Rambow

The period looks around the 1980, this is because of their dress sense their wearing trench coats and long dresses which are very loose on them. This suggest their from a religious community such conservative. Their standing in front of a public cinema with the title 'First Blood' this suggest some kind of protest against the film. There is also a black lady with also a trench coat; however she still not accepted by them as she is wearing short red dress below her knee. This shows us that the whole city is not all religious and strict on their dress code.

This film shown on the cinema Rambo is similar to the 'Son of Rambow' there some kind of link between them.

This scene is set in a cinema, there is some evidence to show their period of time; such as their clothes sense. Most of them are smoking, and are not following the smoking policy.

The opening scene of 'Delicatessen' , 'City of God' and 'Se7en'

In the opening scene 'Delicatessen' the use of shots were very pacific, some parts are very close up and some far. This created tension were was needed, for example when the man was locked up the camera zoomed in which showed he was sweating, nerves and was very frightened. The background music was very eerie and disturbing to listen to, it made your whole body shiver and gave us goosebumps. The types of sounds that was used was 'diegetic sound' this is sound heard by the characters or made by the characters, for example when he was breathing very heavy. This suggest that he might have been scared of something that was coming in his way, also you could hear cars and engine running which was coming from the dustbin truck. The use of lightening was very successfully done, and added up-to the eerie atmosphere which increased the audience fear. The tone of the film, seemed disturbing and creepy. The target audience for this film is more likely to be 15 and over as it is not suitable for 15 and under, because it has violent clips.

Review of the first 5minutes of ''The Grudge, Drag Me To Hell & Final Destination.

The first 5minutes of ''The Grudge'', gives us a clear outline of what the film is going to be about, inculding the genre and target audience. Its a quite disturbing film to watch; and the text used before the plot starts to adds upto the sinister mood, especially when you first read this text ''when someone dies in the grip of a powerful rage... a curse is born''. That straight away gives you a little fright and builds up tension gradually as the film goes on, this film is very descriptive and uses strong eerie text which grabs your attention. film. This method is very useful and tends to draw the audience in, which makes us feel the story is real and increases the sinister mood. The font is also creepy and the colours used for example bold flashing red letters; gives us an idea of the genre of the film as something disturbing and scary for example a horror film. However if the font was in colourful bubble writing, it would make us think the theme is like a comedy family film which you can enjoy and laugh to. Howver that isnt always that case for examples this film; i think the appropriate age group for this film is 15 and over; because it uses strong language, violent and disturbing scenes. Although i myself watched this film when i was 9 and i was traumatized for nearly 2weeks, it taught me a good lesson though.

The first 5minutes of ''Drage Me To Hell'' starts off with blond middle age lady driving in a motor way rushing to get to work, with a normal life full of challanges and day to day missions. Such as wanting to move a level higher in where she works for example her wanting to be the an assistant manager. The title of the film gives away the genre and theme of the film, however if you didnt read the title and just see the first 5minutes of the film you would think its not a horror film. You would just assume a lady who works as a loan officer with problem; such as always being underestimated by her boss that thinks she cant make tough decisions. However after she she proofs him wrong by evicting an old lady from her home finds herself the beneficiary of a supernatural curse, she asks help from a seer to try to save her soul from burning, while being tortured when shes awake or a sleep. The target audience is quite obvious, its more suitable for 15 and over as it has violent scenes and strong language.

The first 5minutes of ''Final Destination'' starts of in a theme park at night with lots of different colours flashing and rides going slow and then 1minute fast, thats very creepy and kind of suggests that not everything is seen how it is. For instance the ride looks slow but goes fast in some flashes, also we get a slight idea of were the setting would take place. The title seems interesting and draws people in and its quite catchy; the target audience would mainly be for 15 and over as it has disturbing scenes and strong language which isnt appropriate for children under 15. The film is about a teenager who has a vision of his friends and him dying in a plane crash, he prevents that from happening but only to give death a chance to hunt them down; one by one.

In conclusion ''The grudge'' starts off in a more successful way because its use of texts was a very good method to use and gave us a clear understand; it also gave the audience a slight idea of what film was going to be about and helped to build tension and added upto the eeri atmosphere. The background music was also very affective and fitted perfectly with the theme and the film, it looked realistic and make-believe.

How is media vital in modern life?

In todays society media plays a main role in our daily life, we tend to rely on media for knowledge and entertainment for example the internet, newspapers, tv and radio. These technology used are improved and changed rapidly, its fascinating how today's society uses media ever so often then before in 1950s when internet was first discovered. The history of the internet started in 1950s and 1960 with the development of computers; this began with point- to-point communication between main frame computers and terminals. After some time it changed to point-to-point communication between other computers. As you see people didn't rely on the media for entertaintment or knowledge, they used their own entertainment and found knowledge in a different way. Our society is lacking on that we have become so lazy that we rely on entertainment for commuincation, entertainment and news.

Although Media is very useful in today's society , it helps to have a clear understanding of whats going around the world, it's significantly changing and getting better each time. For example the facility to connect to people and to share and receive all kinds of news all around the country, which also informs us day to day facts, however it does have a negative side to it. Sometimes the media can be biased and stereotypical minded to other cultures and religion, and discriminates them while portrays them in harsh way , which as result changes peoples views about certain cultures and religion. However over all media comes with a positive side and also negative side in todays society, it all depends on how you see and understand things.

Media's main target is to have an impact in our daily life routine to influence us maybe for the better or for the worse, they also want to inform us about urgent information and also new entertainments that people may like. Media fits into communication; they both have the same aim to give our society a better world which we all want a modern world that keeps improving. it keeps us updated, and makes us have all kinds of moods for example sometimes some news makes us surpised, shocked, happy and sad.

What shock me the most is that we have the ability to speak to people live on the internet, were we can see and hear our loved ones this site is called ''skype''. ''Youtube'' is also a very fascinating site its full of all sorts of things like music, talents, news, programmes and films, although it does have a negative side to it for examples videos of fights and girls pictures which are discriminated, over all its excellent site and easy to use all around the country.
Facebook is one of the most fast growing website, there are people signing up every 2minutes all around the country, apparently ''if facebook was a country it would have been the third biggest country''. Its great site it comes with all sorts of things you can meet new people all around the country every time, its beneficial for everyone friends, families, businesses that advertise products, tv shows, films , shops and celebrities.

Have you ever asked yourself how today's society would be without internet and the media?, well many of us use internet to communicate especially those that are 11 and over. From email to chat forums, social networks life facebooks, dating sites and also there would not be a strong communication between country to country. Virtual worlds rely on the internet for social communication and networking which is very massive and an important method which is used.
So its quite obvious to expect that life without the internet would make people go back to the beginning of time were you needed to socialise and communicate on a very basic level. Its simple remark that internet changed and improved the world and lives we live in, we communicate quicker, we could buy and sell quicker and we could also find news quicker. So without internet our world would slow down in business, society and communication. Almost all businesses nowadays have some link to internet whether its an easy business listing or an online store, possibly world wide recession, stock markets would fall down, millions of business would get ruined and millions of people would loose there job.

To be honest i see myself addicted to the internet i like to use it for everything information and entertainment, i dont know how i would cope without internet and media. Media plays a huge part in my life, i have always relied on it and never experienced a life without it. However i believe that busincess that started before internet and other technology used nowadays, would cope succesfully. Also people that were brought up in life without caring for media and internet could also cope, because they only relied on themselves and other sources which do not link to internet and media for example 'books'.

In conclusion, the media is vital to everyones daily life, we may not know it but its true for instance picking up newspapers from the train station on our way to work, sometimes we listen to the radio in morning to hear if there is any traffic in a pacfic area. I grantee you that at least 98% of people check the weather news before going to work, school and other places. Media is used in everything we do in today's society, people sometimes just think social network and the internet only involves the media however that is not always the case.
